GTA 6 Online: everything we know about the multiplayer mode

GTA Online changed how Rockstar operates. Since 2013, the multiplayer mode of GTA V has generated revenue for over a decade. Whether GTA 6 gets an online component of its own, Rockstar has not said. On November 19, 2026, what you get is the single-player game.

That is Rockstar's own wording: the pre-order announcement of June 24, 2026 describes GTA 6 as "a single player experience". No online mode has been announced, at launch or after. This page covers what we know for certain, what's circulating without official status, and why none of it changes the decision to preorder.

GTA 6 is a single-player experience

Confirmation comes from Rockstar itself. The Newswire post of June 24, 2026 reads "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience"; the store listings say the same. No Rockstar announcement mentions a multiplayer mode, on day one or later.

On GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar released the single-player game first and the online component weeks later: GTA Online entered beta on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA V; Red Dead Online entered beta in November 2018, a month after RDR2. That is a track record, not a stated policy, and it says nothing official about GTA 6.

On November 19, 2026, you get Jason and Lucia's story in the State of Leonida. The open world, vehicles, the activities shown in the trailers and the Extended Look (diving, jet-skiing, fishing, basketball). No multiplayer session.

The leak about an online launch within a month

One leaker, TheGhostOfHope, claimed in April 2026 that Rockstar planned to launch an online component "within a month after the release of the game". One anonymous source, no document, no corroboration: a claim, not a fact.

This information has not been confirmed by Rockstar. It has not been relayed by Rockstar Games on their official Newswire or on the @RockstarGames X account. Treat it for what it is: a leak, without official status.

If Rockstar followed the GTA V calendar, an online launch a few weeks after the solo release would be consistent. But Rockstar has announced neither an online mode nor a date.

The 32-player figure: where it comes from

No official document describes an online mode for GTA 6. A figure of 32 players per session circulated in the press in September 2026 (GamingHQ, September 12, 2026), drawn from filings in a 2026 labour dispute involving Rockstar; the figure was mentioned in passing, not described as a design target, and the press itself noted it was unconfirmed.

It is cited here for what it is: a number that surfaced through legal proceedings, not a technical specification. Rockstar has not communicated on game modes, session structure or server capacity for any online component of GTA 6.

The Rockstar precedent: GTA V and RDR2 got their online after the solo game

GTA V in 2013: the solo game launched September 17. GTA Online entered beta on October 1, two weeks later, with massive server issues at launch. It was then stabilized and developed for over a decade.

Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018: solo on October 26, Red Dead Online in beta on November 27. The beta ran until May 2019 before reaching full release.

Two precedents, GTA V and RDR2, follow that order: solo first, then online weeks later. Nobody knows whether GTA 6 will follow it: Rockstar has announced nothing and explained none of its choices.

This track record is all we have, and it says nothing about whether, or when, GTA 6 gets an online mode.

Why preorder now if the online isn't there

Because the single-player game is the whole offer, and it is a large one: the State of Leonida, Jason and Lucia's story, the activities shown in the trailers and the Extended Look (diving, jet-skiing, fishing, basketball, kayaking). A dense open world, with no multiplayer server needed.

And because nothing you buy now depends on an online mode. By preordering, you lock in day-one access to the single-player game. If Rockstar announces more later, you will already own the game.

On the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, the Standard edition is listed at 79.99 EUR. On June 25, 2026, 60 EUR was observed on Amazon.fr (Le Mag Jeux High-Tech); that boxed listing shows as unavailable as of October 4, 2026, with no price.
